Been autoXing with the CSCC when I get a chance and occasionally up in Edmonton. I have been to the Sept event in Saskatoon twice and had a great time both times. Nearly made it a third time 2 years ago but we got as far as Kindersly and a rear wheel bearing failed on the XR. Its a long story after that, much of it spent on the road. One of these days the XR will receive a coat of paint? What colour? The boss, hasnt made up her mind as yet.

While my racing interests may have started many years ago at the tender age of oh, let’s not go there, I wasn't seriously enthusiastic about racing myself until Jamie got a car that fit both of us (Mustang-laid out on passenger seat while cornering; Midget-seatbelt too short; Fiero-damper bar restricted steering; MX6-broke exhaust on straight; Formula Vee-couldn't reach gas pedal-really). Since driving the Sprite to a porta-potty at an Edmonton event a few years ago, I’ve been hooked and have been known to spout off profusely at Jamie when he won’t tow the car to an event for me because it might rain that day. (What’s the big deal? We’ve got a full face helmet! Who needs wipers, or a roof?)
A few years ago my goal was to be within 15 seconds of Jamie’s time and I have since narrowed that down to 10. Earlier this season I came within 3 seconds! (It was a fun run, but who cares – 3 seconds is 3 seconds!)
This year my goal for SSIS is to come within those 3 seconds during an official run, sometime on Saturday, so that I can narrow the margin even more on Sunday. I think I’ll go sit in the car in the garage and practice shifting.
. . . and all this I must achieve while keeping a keen eye out for Lyall’s Hawaiian shorts. I think we should incorporate those into a flag for use at every event . . .
Ahh yes, SSIS – the weekend I’ve waited for all year!

My name is Dennis Beck from Saskatoon Saskatchewan.
I first started autocrossing when I was 17 years old in a 1980 toyota Celica. After a few years of only taking part in a few events, I finally started to compete more regularly in 2001 in a 1985 toyota MR2 when I became a SSCC member. After racing a 1993 MR2 Turbo for a few years, and a 1991 miata for a year, I find myself in an old 1975 Toyota Celica mildly prepared for class F Street Prepared. I recently Dyno'd this car at a whopping 94 horsepower and 112 ft/lb's of torque. Definitely not a powerhouse by any means.

Graeme has studied auto racing intently since early childhood - unfortunately only from the perspective of a seatbelt retaining bolt. The occasional trophy or plaque that has come his way are as much of a shock to him as they are to the wall he has insidiously failed to mount them on.

Last time I was in Saskatoon was during the 2002 SSIS. I was driving an FR (front engine, rear drive) Toyota Corolla and I finished DFL (dead forking last) in my Class, but I had lots of Fun thanks to the SSCC for a great event.
This year I'll be back in another FR Toyota with worn out tires, slipping clutch and a Limited Grip Differential (LGD), which pretty much guarantees a DFL finish, but nonetheless I will have fun at the Biggest Amateur Motorsport Party of the year in the Prairies.

Was involved in the organization of the first CNAC in 1971. Designed many of the first generation Nationals courses. Multitime National Champion in both A Mod and B Mod. Record holder at the Knox Mountain Hillclimb in BC.

My first ever Solo II event was in 2001 with Calgary Sports Car Club's Stampede Motorsports Weekend. In here I met esteemed Saskatoon racer, Dennis Beck. At the time, we were both into Toyotas and were actually both driving AE86 Corolla GTS coupes.
In 2002, I traded up for an AW11 MR2, which I then took to a 1st place win in C-Stock during that year's Super Slalom in Saskatoon. Month's prior, during the same season, I won 2nd place in CSCC's Stampede Weekend! Not bad for a rookie year!
2003, I broke the MR2 and drove my AE92 Corolla Wagon to SSIS in FSS class. Though I made her wear my MR2's R-comps, I never had a notable finish.
In 2004, I then drove the fixed up and much modified MR2 to SSIS to a poor placing in CSP.
This time around, I am driving my 1992 Mitsubishi Lancer Evolution.
Locally in Calgary, we run SCCA rules where I class myself in FP. Prepared has so many catch-alls stating NOC or "not otherwise classed" and no requirement for actual market release. For SSIS, I will see if this can be allowed. In any case, I have put myself in DM for ASA and FP for SCCA. I'm willing to go to EM (2.0L Turbo) for SCCA if the stewards deem me more appropriate there. (post 730pm edit 08/31... I decided to go EM)
Whatever the outcome, classing is irrelevant. All I want this year is to finish respectably when compared to other comparable cars; ie AWD, Turbocharged, roadgoing versions of rallycars.
